Home Assessments

Our home should be our sanctuary, a place to relax and be ourselves. But it should also be practical, accommodating and work for us too.

If your home is no longer working for you, or if you can’t use it to its potential, Rocky Bay can help. A team of trained assessors can help you discover what is available to you and what your home could be.

If you would like to stay in your current home, then Home Modifications could be for you. A home modifications assessor can match your needs to those available in the market, such as handrails, ramps, lever taps or step wedges. As well as bathroom renovations and door widening.

If you are unable to modify your home, or would prefer to live in a brand new home, ask us if you qualify for Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA). A qualified therapist will assess you for eligibility and help get you into a new home sooner. SDA developments currently being considered includes houses, units and apartments, so you can choose where and how you want to live. Home Modifications

To make your house safe and accessible for you, home modifications may be required.

These can be relatively simple, such as installing handrails or ramps, or more complex changes such as widening doorways or modifying bathrooms.

You may be eligible for NDIS funding to help cover the costs involved. The entire home modification process can be a daunting experience especially if there are complex, structural changes to be made. The good news is Rocky Bay is here to help you throughout the process, from assessment and application, through to the design and build phases.

Depending on the level of complexity of the modifications you require, the entire process can be lengthy. There are many steps involved and the process is not necessarily linear. It is not uncommon for complex projects to take up to 18 months to complete. Rocky Bay’s team of Complex Home Modifications Assessors (CHMA) will support you to keep the project moving and avoid setbacks and delays where possible.

FAQ

What are Home Assessments?

Home assessments, sometimes called functional assessments, are usually conducted by an occupational therapist, to test your needs in your living environment. OTs will assess you and your home and write a report, detailing what you need to live your best life. This report can be used to apply for funding for home modifications, Supported Independent Living (SIL) funding, or Specialist Disability Accommodation SDA funding.

Who is it for?

Anyone living with disability (or caring for someone who does) can apply for home modifications. To access SDA funding, you must be 18+, and meet the criteria as described by the NDIS here.

Where is the service located?

Rocky Bay Home Assessors will visit you wherever you are in the Perth metropolitan area.

What funding is available?

Home modifications can be funded by your NDIS plan, Disability Services Commission funding, Medicare or if you want to pay for it yourself. For SDA, you will need to have housing in your current NDIS plan. You do not need to be a current customer of Rocky Bay to access a Home Assessment. No housing on your plan? No plan at all? We can help with that too! Simply call 6282 1900 today and ask how your future can be shaped not by limitations, but by your personal choices.
