AUSWIM

AUSWIM is our 8 week program that is aimed at providing children access to therapy services and support in an aquatic, water-based environment.

The AUSWIM program is specifically targeted to children with a diagnosis of Autism (or seeking) who require support in water safety and awareness, gross motor skills and cardiovascular fitness. Rocky Bay uses a multi-disciplinary approach for this program, a physiotherapist will provide the majority of the support; with an occupational or speech therapist on board to support the physio in achieving the goals (resources, strategies etc). Delivered as a 1:1 service, our team work with you to find a location near you and determine a suitable start date for your swimming adventure!

Program Structure

The program aims to deliver 4 pool sessions and then transition with those skills to 4 beach sessions (in your local area and of course, weather dependent).

  • 1 initial consult meeting with you and your family to introduce the therapy team and to create your child’s goals for the program
  • 1 initial assessment completed by a physiotherapist and another discipline (occupational or speech therapist, depending on your child’s requirements)
  • Sessions 1 through to 4 are based in a swimming pool
  • Sessions 5 through to 8 are based at the beach, or if you and your child would prefer, can continue at the swimming pool
  • A summary report is completed by your therapy team
Please note that parents must attend all sessions with their child.
