Assist with Medication Training

The correct dispensing and administering of medication is an important skill for anyone supporting a person living with disability. Assist with Medication Training will give you the skills to feel confident and competent in your ability to provide medication safely, however it does not cover the use of subcutaneous injections including insulin.

What is Medication Training?

Assist with Medication Training teaches support workers and carers the skills and knowledge to safely assist with the administration of prescribed medications from dose administration aids.This includes understanding different types of medications, how they’re dispensed and how to support safe self-administration.
The course is designed for all support staff working in residential, community or home settings responsible for either assisting medication or the provision of self-medication.

What You’ll Learn in Our Medication Administration Course

Our assist with medication competency training courses are designed to equip you with the skills and knowledge you need to assist with medication in a safe and supportive way. Through a combination of hands-on practice and theoretical learning in a 3-hour session you’ll learn:

• How to follow procedures for administering prescribed medications.
• Understand how to use dose administration aids safely.
• Recognise common side effects and how to respond.
• Build your confidence in documenting medication accurately.
• Promote and support self-administration when appropriate.
