Life through Blake’s Lens
Thanks to Rocky Bay’s Wishing Tree, Blake has been gifted...
Before Sonya started working with Rocky Bay dietitian Alex Chung, food and nutrition felt like a constant battle. “I was always in doubt about what I should or shouldn’t eat.” She says.
After years of living with obesity and trying different diets with little long-term success, Sonya was left feeling overwhelmed by all the conflicting information and lack of clear guidance.
That all changed when Sonya met Alex. He provided the structure, support, and understanding needed for Sonya to feel confident about her food choices. “With a dietitian and a food plan, I’m now losing weight effectively, and more importantly, I’ve learned to tell the difference between healthy and unhealthy foods.” Sonya says.
Sonya’s original goal was simple: eat better and lose some weight. With Alex’s help, that goal has become a reality. Together, they created an individualised meal plan that works with Sonya’s lifestyle. As a visual learner, she appreciated that Alex adapted his approach to suit her needs using images and visuals to explain the plan in an easy and engaging way.
The results speak for themselves. In just one month, she lost five kilograms, dropped a clothing size, and perhaps most exciting of all, she is still enjoying the foods she love. “My energy levels have increased, my mood is better, and I feel more positive about food and my choices,” Sonya explains.
Every session is collaborative and supportive. Alex checks in on progress, asks questions, and always makes time to ensure there are no doubts left unanswered. For Sonya, it’s about more than nutrition, it’s about being seen and treated as an individual. “Even with a disability, we have the same questions and needs as anyone else. Communication matters, and it should be tailored to each person.”
When asked what Sonya would say to someone unsure about seeing a dietitian, her answer was simple:
“Do it! Your life will change for the better.”
