The Makuru weather made way for the sunshine on Friday 7 July as we hosted our annual NAIDOC Week celebrations in the gardens of our Mosman Park hub.

Noongar Elder, Robyn Collard, along with her grandsons Tryse and Albert, led the Welcome to Country and Smoking Ceremony.

Robyn also spoke about the importance of this year’s NAIDOC Week theme “For Our Elders”, and the critical roles Elders play in our communities, and took guests on a journey around Whadjuk country, explaining the significance of each local area.

Well over 100 guests were also treated to a delicious array of native inspired ice-creams by Gather Foods, a local Boorloo First Nations enterprise that specialise in catering, retail and product manufacturing.

Chairperson of our RAP Committee and Customer Experience and Insights Manager, Kristy Willoughby, says Rocky Bay always strives to be an organisation which provides culturally competent and respectful services to First Nations families and caregivers.

“This can only be achieved through the guidance of our Innovate RAP, and of course in partnership with First Nations organisations and the wider community.”

She called for anyone within the local community, especially those who are First Nations, to express their interest in being part of Rocky Bay’s RAP Committee.

Kristy also shared that excitingly, Rocky Bay will soon be unveiling a commissioned piece of artwork by local Noongar artist, Tyrown Waigana, across our network of metro hubs, as well as digitally.

“The unique forms featured in the artwork reflect Rocky Bay’s three main divisions (supported accommodation, therapy and community). The design characteristics express the connection between customers, family and staff, and the colour palette is from Rocky Bay’s own branding, which heightens a sense of familiarity and express the organisation’s vibrancy.”

Rocky Bay has also recently commenced a new commercial partnership with Kulbardi, Australia’s largest Indigenous-owned holistic workplace supplier.
