Carers WA

Carer Gateway, an Australian Government initiative, is dedicated to assisting family carers across the country. It provides a range of free online, telephone, and in-person supports and services designed and tested by carers themselves to alleviate stress and ensure sustainability in their caring roles. 

Carers WA is a non-profit, community based organisation and registered charity dedicated to improving the lives of family and friend carers living in Western Australia. Carers WA supports the empowerment and wellbeing of carers through a range of programs, services, and advocacy and is the lead service delivery partner for Carer Gateway in WA.

Every carer who would like to explore supports through Carer Gateway will need to complete a planning session which generally takes 30-60 minutes. This is to develop a personalised and tailored action plan to determine which supports are best matched to your individual caring circumstances.

Certainly! Here’s an overview of the support services available:

In-person peer support: Connect with others who share similar caring responsibilities and learn from your shared experiences caring for a family member or friend.

Facilitated carer coaching: One-on-one meetings with a Carer Coach. To discuss and identify your personal goals, whether they are related to your caring role or not.   

Counselling: speak to a nationally accredited counsellor one-on-one about issues related to your caring role.   

Tailored Support Packages: Packages combine a range of practical supports to assist with the caring role or help access education or employment. Examples of supports may include; domestic help, transport to medical appointments, planned respite or a training course. (Dependent on planning session and need of individual carers).

Emergency Respite: Available for carers who are experiencing an urgent, unplanned and imminent event that temporarily restricts their ability to continue caring when no other formal or informal supports are available.
