Meet Gemma Lovitt, Marketing Officer at Rocky Bay!
Gemma has an extensive background in e-commerce and marketing within various industries, and brings a wealth of knowledge to our dynamic Marketing team.
Gemma is no stranger to Rocky Bay. She first joined us in 2019 as Marketing Assistant, where she supported the team with all manner of marketing including events like our Charity Golf Day and Family Fun Day, supporting the promotion of therapy groups, working with Rocky Bay Equipment to take photography for our online equipment shop, and she even helped kick off the beginnings of our re-brand and current website!
After leaving to pursue a unique opportunity of helping to launch a start-up, Gemma returned to Rocky Bay in 2022, this time in the role of Marketing Officer. Get to know Gemma and her role a little better with our below Q&A.
You’ve recently returned to Rocky Bay after three years in a new role with the Marketing team. What brought you back?
I am a firm believer that our past experiences and actions all lead us to where we are today. It might sound strange, but I knew at the time I was leaving that I would come back to Rocky Bay. It was a hard decision to leave as I loved my role and my team, and found Rocky Bay to be an incredibly rewarding place to work. I am very thankful that I have been welcomed back with open arms after taking a side step to help launch a start-up headed by someone I had worked for previously, and greatly respected.
Tell us more about your previous experience?
I studied a Bachelor of Communications and Multi-Media with majors in Photography and Graphic Design. I have worked in e-commerce and marketing for businesses ranging from photography studios, homewares, wallpaper and interior design, and more recently Australian designer fashion. So Rocky Bay is very different but in the best way.
Describe a typical day in your role as Marketing Officer?
Being a Marketing Officer means that my role is quite varied and changes from day to day depending on where we are needed across the organisation. It might see me working closely with the Shift Accessible Homes team in regards to vacancies for new homes that are being built, or it might see me liaising with The Studio team and photographing artworks for their up coming art exhibition in February (you should definitely get along to this – it’s a show not to be missed!). We are lucky in that we get insight into many different departments and teams and we also get to share our wonderful customer stories too!
What do you love most about your job?
There are a lot of things that I love about my job. It is a very supportive environment and there is a strong emphasis on work-life balance. We are such a large organisation with so many different divisions and teams, yet we all share the same drive and that’s to help. Being united in that way is pretty special and very inspiring. I consider myself lucky being able to work in such a positive and affirming environment where everyone genuinely cares and wants to do their best.
What do you love to do in your free time?
In my free time I love seeing friends and family, heading out and about in Fremantle and slowly (very slowly) renovating our 70’s home in White Gum Valley, which came with a big garden and mature fruit trees (orange, lemon, fig, olive) that we are learning to tame. We also spend a lot of time outdoors with our dog who loves swimming in the river down at East Fremantle.
What are three things you can’t live without and why?
- Family + friends
- My garden (I am a native plant enthusiast and am getting better at keeping them aliveJ)
- My five and half year old border collie Barnie, who I had hoped could be a therapy dog as he is very loveable and adores people, but he is a bit too lively (read: naughty)
