Diabetes Support
Diabetes is the fastest growing chronic condition in Australia, with 1 in 4 adults either living with diabetes or pre-diabetes. If not managed effectively, diabetes can lead to serious health complications.
Support Workers play an important role in taking care of the person living with diabetes and can help them practice good diabetes care. Effective self–care results in better health related outcomes and quality of life for the person living with diabetes.
This workshop will provide Support Workers with a basic understanding of diabetes, and how it relates to their work.
- Diabetes causation, treatment and management principles
- Introduction of the essential components of the management of diabetes
- Practice session BGL Testing (lancet & glucometer), safe disposal of sharps
- Recognise diabetes complications and the appropriate treatment plan
- When to refer to another Health Professional
The training will include both theory and practical components. Rocky Bay does not train Support Workers in the administration of Insulin.
