Working my way through Rocky Bay – Sam’s story

I started with Rocky Bay in July 2006 as a disability support worker and have worked across several different areas including Getabout, RecConnect and the Residence – I even did some shifts as a kitchen hand which I really enjoyed.

An opportunity then arose within the Training Department for a training officer. I applied, was successful and started in March 2011. During my time with the training team I have studied and gained skills and/or qualifications in Certificate IV in Training and Assessment, Manutention and Positive Behavioural Support. I continue to keep a regular shift in RecConnect to both maintain the relationships I have built and ensure the training we provide directly links to the support worker’s role.

I am on the Wishing Tree committee which is a fantastic opportunity to be a part of granting wishes and seeing people get things they otherwise may not be able to afford or access. I’m also excited to be a member of the Behaviour Committee, which will focus on supporting positive behaviour across the organisation.

I really value the strong relationships I have made here at Rocky Bay and I like the stability of the work. I love the flexibility and diversity of working across departments as it keeps things fresh and exciting.
