RecConnect Team Leader Sally tells her Kupu Kupu story.
“In October 2012 my Husband Howard & myself visited the Kupu Kupu foundation in Ubud, Bali. It is a school that was set up to cater for children living with disabilities. It was wonderful to meet Begonia, an amazingly inspirational woman who founded the school in 2000 after fundraising over a few years in Spain.
On my return I shared the experience with many people at Rocky Bay. The members of RecConnect were particularly interested to hear the story of Kupu Kupu & to see pictures of the children that are supported by the foundation. At about the same time, RecConnect members were working towards their art exhibition- Art Attack. They saw this as an opportunity to help others that are less fortunate than themselves, through the act of giving they have said that they feel an added sense of worth & empowerment.
The RecConnect members proudly donated a pushchair for a three year old child who has cerebral palsy, $200.00 worth of clothes for the other children, they sent cards & photo’s. In return, the children sent photographs of themselves & beautiful friendship bracelets that are worn by the RecConnect team as a reminder of our association & ongoing friendship with the children & staff of Kupu Kupu. Since last October many other members of staff have visited Kupu Kupu. It is our wish that one day we may be able to organise a trip for some of our clients to visit the foundation in person & meet the children that they have come to know through stories & photographs.”
