Peter joined Rocky Bay as a guest house Disability Support Worker end of 2013. His ultimate goal is to improve the quality of life for his clients living with disability.
Peter (pictured above with client, Johnathan) exemplifies Rocky Bay’s ethos of ‘working with, not for’ people with disabilities. “I think this concept creates a substantial platform for staff and clients to work together to discover abilities. That’s why I love working at Rocky Bay,” says Peter.
The connection to his clients is a very personal one for Peter, “I developed a strong connection with disability after learning about seizures as well as seizure management,” says Peter whose father was diagnosed with epilepsy. “Although my Dad passed away in 2008, it gives me great satisfaction to provide disability support, particularly when helping to manage seizures of people with epilepsy.”
Since starting work at Rocky Bay in 2013, Peter has developed both personally and professionally, completing his Certificate III in Disability in 2014. “As Rocky Bay is a Registered Training Organisation I was able to complete this qualification onsite. I really enjoyed the delivery method and materials provided to me during this training. The support and training articulated by our Rocky Bay trainers was absolutely phenomenal!”
It is clear that Peter is living his passion through his work at Rocky Bay, “turning my client’s hopes and dreams into a reality is the most sensational thing about my job. It really makes me smile.” says Peter. “To anyone considering applying for a job at Rocky Bay – I want them to know it is the best place to work. Do not procrastinate; you are on the right track.”
