Rocky Bay’s regularly held Fathers Forum continues from strength to strength with another get together scheduled for February at Rocky Bay Cockburn Central. In October, around ten fathers attend the session discussing such topics as NDIS and My Way implications as well as contributing to Q&A’s with a Disability Services Commission representative. The Fathers Forum has been running three times per year since early 2012 and over 20 fathers have been involved.
Attendees at previous forums have stated that they like the relaxed style of the forum and enjoy getting first hand advice from peers.
“I come to these events to catch up with other dads and to learn from each other”
“My time is important and as parents we get bombarded with email requests and letters asking us to do this or go to that, and we do not know whether it is worth going to or not. By having a chat with another father, I can find out if an event is worth attending”
The Fathers Forum coordinator, Scott Davidson, a Senior Psychologist at Rocky Bay says, “Research suggests that fathers play a crucial role in maintaining strong family support and that your positive involvement is associated with better educational, social and emotional outcomes for children”.
All fathers of clients connected to the Rocky Bay community are welcome to attend. Please contact Scott on 6399 4122 or [email protected] for any queries.
