DJ Ben rocks disco night

‘Spooky Night’ was the theme for October’s Getabout disco. The gym was transformed with all types of ghostly, eerie, creepy decorations.  Invitations were sent and costumes donned.  Ben Wilton, a member of Getabout, was hired as the DJ. Ben became interested in DJ-ing in 2005 at high school and had a virtual program for his laptop. Two years ago he received a mixer, an amplifier and two twelve inch speakers through Rocky Bay’s Wishing Tree Program. This enabled him to go on and study to graduate with his Certificate III in Radio Broadcasting from TAFE. Since then he has had gigs at Armadale RSL Club, two weddings, birthdays, New Years Eve party at his church and disco’s at Quinn Park Primary School.

“I meet with people and get special requests for the event. It is important to know what music people don’t want as well!” said Ben.

The disco was a great success. Everyone had a night filled with laughs and frights! Attendees included people from other organisations.  A support worker Amanda noted ‘They were a little hesitant to join in at first but after feeling so welcome they were the last off the dance floor’.

The next disco will be held on Friday 8th November from 6pm-9pm. The theme is ‘Australian Outback’ and it’s the last one for this year, entry is $10 including a snack. For further details please contact Melanie, Getabout Team Leader on (08)9383 5185 or just come along on the night.
