Daily playtime is Harry’s best therapy

Seven-year-old Harry lives with autism and loves spending time on playground equipment, especially the monkey bars. Harry requires movement throughout the day, more intensively when he’s feeling anxious.
When Harry’s school playground equipment was closed for renovations, his Mum, Megan, teachers and therapists all noticed a decline in Harry’s ability to concentrate, interact and behave appropriately.

Harry’s mum began to plan a way to provide Harry with his own monkey bars for his birthday. Knowing the difference regular access to outdoor equipment could make, Harry’s Therapist submitted a wish to part-fund a Funky Monkey playground set.

The wish was granted and Harry got a great birthday surprise. As well as his favourite monkey bars, the Orangutan set included a swing and trapeze bar.

Thanks to Rocky Bay’s Wishing Tree, Harry’s sensory needs can now be met at home, allowing him to self-regulate. What’s more, Harry has the opportunity to improve his social skills as he plays more with his brother and is proud to invite classmates round to play.

By donating to the Rocky Bay Wishing Tree or gifting a wish you can optimise the quality of life for people like Harry.
