Living life her way: Helen’s story
This World Cerebral Palsy Day, we’re celebrating Helen, a much-loved...
Shaun has always loved fire engines and enjoys watching them on his television. With his 48th birthday coming up, Emily and Lisa from our amazing supported accommodation team decided to give him a fiery birthday surprise to remember!
The team organised for Wanneroo Fire Brigade to take a visit to Shaun’s Girrawheen home where he was relaxing at home. When he heard the fire truck outside he went to his bedroom window to take a look…
When he saw the firefighters pulling up outside his house, his excitement was evident from the beaming smile on his face!
From meeting the crew to watering the plants with a fire hose, it was a day he won’t forget anytime soon. They even ‘tested the sirens’! He wasn’t the only one to be thrilled by the surprise – the experience was shared with his family and housemates too.
The firefighters greeted Shaun with a big ‘Happy Birthday’ and brought out helmets for everyone to try on. The crew were incredibly kind and patient, making the experience comfortable, accessible and fun.
Thanks to everyone involved who made this a birthday to remember for Shaun!
