For children living with autism, simple daily tasks can lead to serious anxiety, causing distress for themselves and their families. Understanding our emotions can bring huge benefits to coping with stressful situations.

Mindfulness is proven in reducing anxiety for children living with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). Identifying and understanding our bodies and emotions can greatly improve symptoms of anxiety in a variety of settings.

FAQ

What is Mindful Movers?

Mindful Movers is a series of workshops for children aged 3-16 designed to reduce anxiety through mindfulness, breathing exercises and movement. Reducing anxiety is proven to improve the quality for young people living with Autism.

Who is it for?

Children living with ASD aged 3-16 are able to participate in Mindful Movers, with four age appropriate programs available. Little Lotus is for children aged 3-5, Peaceful Pandas (6-10), Flexible Friends (10-13) and Wise Warriors (13-16).

Why is it necessary?

Between 40 to 80% of all children with Autism have anxiety levels that interfere with participation in their daily occupations and this tends to progressively worsen during the teenage years (Dr Wray, ASD Symposium, 18 June 2018). Learning to understand and regulate emotions from a young age will build children’s self-confidence and resilience.

Where is it held?

Mindful Movers is held at Rocky Bay hubs right across the Perth metro area. Click the program buttons for upcoming sessions.

What funding is available?

You can access services if you have an NDIS plan, Disability Services Commission funding, Medicare or if you want to fund your own services. We can also support you through the planning process if you do not have a plan already.
