Movie stars in our midst

Rocky Bay has its very own movie stars in Tony Skelin and Jeffrey Sampson!

Both gentlemen, who are residents at Rocky Bay’s supported accommodation home in Yangebup, participated as extras in a new Australian film called ‘Go!’ set to be released in January 2020.

The duo filmed their scenes in May this year, which took place at the Cockburn International Kartway.

‘Go!’, a family film set in the go kart racing community and filmed in Western Australia’s south west, follows teenager Jack (William Lodder), who moves to a small town in WA with his mother (Francis O’Connor). When he’s invited to a birthday party at the local go-kart track, he develops a love for the sport and is taken under the wing of Patrick (Richard Roxburgh), the track owner and former go-kart racer, who helps to coach him for the national go-kart championships.

Rocky Bay’s Lead Disability Support Worker, Olivia McLoughlin, said Tony and Jeffrey were in their element.

“All the crew and cast members on set were most accommodating and understanding of the pair, both of whom had an absolutely awesome day amongst the film cameras, go-karts and actors,” Olivia said

“Their experience was exhilarating. For Jeffrey, the go karts were hypnotising as he’s such a massive car enthusiast.”

Olivia explained she came across the filming opportunity whilst researching car-related events for Jeffrey to attend.

“As the movie was completely crowd funded, they put a call-out for extras through the Go-karting Society of Perth.

“I saw it was going to be a unique opportunity for Jeff and Tony to get an experience that doesn’t come along often. We jumped at the opportunity which worked out really well.”

With the film in the can, Tony attended the cast and crew movie preview where Director, Owen Taylor, and young cast members personally greeted the audience and thanked them for their participation, patience with the filming process and support of the film.

‘Go!’ opens in cinemas on Thursday 16 January 2020. View the trailer here.
