Mikaela’s independence grows

Since joining Rocky Bay’s community transition program one year ago, Mikaela has impressed the team with the progress she has made with her development and career goals.

Mikaela recently started volunteering independently at Buggles Childcare in Butler, attending her first unsupported shift last month, and has proven to be a valuable member of the Buggles team!

Her mentor, Kym, spent many months working with Mikaela to build a resume, cover letter and help her look for opportunities in childcare, which has always been an interest for Mikaela. After three months of supported work placement, Kym approached the childcare centre to discuss ideas on how they could help Mikaela grow and continue her learning in her work environment.

Buggles Centre Manager, Mary Sanders, acknowledged all of Mikaela’s hard work during her time with them and recommended she continue her work placement unsupported.

“Mikaela is doing really well. She is confident in interacting with both the educators and the children,” Mary said.

Mikaela plans to begin a Certificate in Child Care at TAFE next year to continue toward her dream of working with children.

Congratulations to Mikaela on all your hard work! Thank you to the Rocky Bay team who supported Mikaela in taking another step toward her goal.
