If you receive Community services from Rocky Bay’s Mandurah hub, you would already be aware of the many fun and engaging programs we offer. Our Community team can support you to participate in various activities and programs including Gardening Gurus, Music & Movement and Drama Group.

Meet Chanel, who is Rocky Bay’s Community Team Leader based at our Mandurah hub.

Chanel has been with Rocky Bay for six years and oversees a range of programs that our Community customers in Mandurah love, such as dance, music and drama, and she meets with and supports our customers and their families to reach their plan goals.

Check out our Q&A with Chanel below to get to know her and role with Rocky Bay a little better!

MEET CHANEL

Describe a typical day as Team Leader in Community?

I meet with customers and their families, as well as staff members for meetings. I create NDIS progress reports for customers, oversee the variety of fun Community programs run at the Mandurah hub, and liaise with therapists and their customers.

I also network with organisations in the community such as Be My Koorda, Mandurah, Kwinana and Rockingham Disability Access & Inclusion and Reclink to help support our customers.

Tell us more about your previous experience?

I previously worked a career catering for weddings and also worked in retail before starting with Rocky Bay in 2014. I started as a Disability Support Worker, then a Lead Disability Support Worker in 2019, and I became Team Leader in March 2020.

What do you love most about your role?

I am fortunate that my role gives me the opportunity to have a positive impact on our customers lives. For example, most of our customers’ NDIS goals are to make and maintain friendships, so we created young adult and adult social groups to achieve this.

Also, I love being based at Rocky Bay’s Mandurah hub with our staff and customers.

What do you love doing in your free time, and are there three things you can’t live without?

I love socialising with my friends and travelling. Things I can’t live without:

  1. My phone! To stay in contact with my family and friends in Scotland
  2. A morning coffee and the occasional evening vino – it keeps the brain ticking!
  3. My work team – especially our friendly Administration Assistant, Scotti.
