It is now easier to get mid-priced Assistive Technology (AT) items (valued between $1,500 and $15,000), thanks to changes in the way the NDIS processes applications.
The changes have been made to ensure you can get the AT supports you require, without lengthy wait times, to reach your potential and let the best of you shine through.
How do I access funding for mid-cost AT?
The NDIS will consider funding mid-cost AT, or equipment priced between $1,500 and $15,000, as long as you provide written evidence from an AT Advisor (such as an occupational therapist or physiotherapist) outlining how the item helps you achieve your Plan goals. This now occurs at the stage when you are building your NDIS Plan with the NDIS Planner.
Although a formal quote or comprehensive AT assessment is no longer required, your therapist will still need to assess your individual situation to better understand your needs and goals in order to write the letter of support.
How do I select the right mid-cost AT?
Once you have received funding in your Plan for mid-cost AT, it is important you seek advice and a letter of support from your allied health provider (physiotherapist, occupational therapist) before the item is purchased. This ensures you purchase a safe and suitable item that meets your needs.
