The world of technology opened its doors to customer, Alex McDonagh recently, when internet service provider, Pentanet, invited him to visit their Balcatta site.

With a strong interest in IT and gaming, and a long term goal to work in the IT sector and cyber security, Alex was in his element.

Embarking on his Stages Toward Employment Pathways (S.T.E.P.) program with Rocky Bay, Alex had researched the Perth start-up discovering that Pentanet’s founders were initially tired of poor gaming experiences such as frustratingly long download times, making it difficult to enjoy their favourite pastime. Ultimately, this led to them launching its most powerful cloud gaming system in Australia.

Claire Francis, Alex’s Rocky Bay S.T.E.P. mentor, knew he was a huge gaming fan and lover of anything I.T. related, she knew a tour of Pentanet would be a huge hit with him.

Reaching out to the company, she shared Alex’s long term goals and his aim to gain experience and exposure to the I.T. working environment, and a tour date was agreed upon.

Alex was able to explore the offices and spend time with the team, with staff taking the time to chat about their various roles and what a day in the life of a Pentanet employee looks like.

“All the staff at Pentanet engaged with Alex, and he chatted with the staff members from several different departments,” said Claire.

“Alex was also able to explore the open plan office space, equipped with its own trampoline, table tennis, and basketball!”

Alex was also fortunate enough to be in the right place at the right time, and hang out with their new marketing toy – a brand new Lamborghini.

“We are very grateful for Pentanet for taking the time to give us such a wonderful tour and providing us with a great introduction to a behind the scenes of what a day in the life of working in I.T. looks like,” said Claire.

“This was an awesome opportunity for Alex and the S.T.E.P. Program.”

“I feel that my Pentanet Tour was very informative and filled with great information,” said Alex about his experience.

“It made a really key difference to my view of the Pentanet Brand and their role around Perth. I also feel it has opened a gate for me to explore different areas of IT work experience and my career.”

Rocky Bays’ Stages Toward Employment Pathways program is all about successfully transitioning people who live with a disability from school to employment, and supporting them on their career journey.
