It’s been the place for caffeine fixes and morning catch ups. The saviour for those of us who have fallen victim to forgotten lunches and the afternoon slumps. And today, on it’s final day, we celebrate the Moon Café at our Mosman Park Hub for what it has always been, a place for connection, conversation and community.
As we reach the end, it’s important that we look back to the beginning and on those who made the Moon Café the place we know today. The café, named in honour of our late staff member and customer Caroline Cusack (Moon was her nickname), opened for its first service at Mosman Park on 28th April 2014. Led expertly by manager Orla Carroll who was instrumental in the establishment and building of the café, its aim was simple
“The Moon Café will offer a range of reasonably priced food, bring in local community to begin building an integrated on-campus atmosphere and to provide a focal point for the social side of Rocky Bay”
Over the years the café grew both in size and personnel, with Ash Challen joining the ranks in 2020 and then taking over as café manager in 2023 as Orla moved into a role as PP&F Coordinator.
For Ash, who has been at the heart of the café’s journey for the last four years, it’s always meant a little bit more than just coffee.
“The Rocky Bay Moon Cafe is one in a million. I knew I could just be myself from the start all those years ago. It’s a home away from home where everyone can come grab a coffee or something to eat and have a chat and a breather/reset.
I value all the staff and customers who have come through over the years, and I just want to say a big thank you to you all and even though I won’t be making your coffee’s anymore, I will always be around for a chat.”
