Location: A Rocky Bay fundraising event

On Sunday May 2nd Rocky Bay hosted our inaugural ‘Walk with me’ event.  The event was a simple 2.5km (max) wheelchair friendly walk from the Eastern foreshore (near Dome Café) to the Western foreshore (near King Carnival).

The unique aspect of this event was our ambassadors; Rocky Bay clients who have volunteered their time to help promote this event and be the “faces” of the event. 

On Sunday seventy odd participants walked with our ambassadors and had the opportunity to chat to them and get an understanding of what it might be like to live with a disability.

Our ambassadors worked very hard raise funds and community awareness for other adults and children living with disabilities.  Their fundraising efforts has seen over $15,000 raised which will go towards respite services; giving both the family and the person with the disability the opportunity to have a much-needed break.

The event was deemed a success, with many of the Rocky Bay clients and local community looking forward to it again next year.
