Occupational Therapy
Occupational Therapists assist individuals to achieve their optimum level of independence and function in their daily life.
Occupational Therapy intervention may include:
- Assessments for independence skills, seating requirements, use of adaptive technologies.
- Training for independence skills, use of adaptive technologies.
- Treatment of developmental difficulties including visual perceptual and visual motor problems.
- Prescription and modification of aids and equipment to assist with mobility, pressure care, transfers and activities of daily living.
- Design and/or modification of housing, workplaces and community facilities to maximise physical access and independent function for individuals.
- Provide information about the impact of the disability on independent functioning to individuals and family members.
- Liaison and consultation with relevant community agencies, school, workplaces on behalf of the individual to access resources, school curriculum and environment to meet individual needs.
The Occupational Therapist works as a member of the team to provide a service that is coordinated with the total service plan for the individual.
