CAEP
Community Aids and Equipment Program (CAEP)
The aim of the program is to assist people with disabilities to stay in their own homes, by providing basic essential equipment. The program can also provide funding for some simple essential home modifications.
Examples of equipment and modifications:
• A wheelchair to help with mobility within the home;
• Installation of a ramp to help with mobility into the home;
• Provision of communication devices;
There are maximum funding limits for equipment items and home modifications. You may need to pay towards the cost of some items.
There is no time limit on the use of equipment provided, but all equipment must be returned to CAEP if no longer needed, so that someone else may benefit. Equipment supplied may not always be new.
Eligibility:
• To be eligible for CAEP you must have a permanent disability;
• Live at home in the community most of the time;
• Hold either an Australian pensioner concession card or health care card or commonwealth (not state) seniors health care card or be eligible for a carer payment or demonstrate financial hardship.
CAEP will not fund people when equipment is available through other funding sources or programs.
Due to demand on services there may be a waiting period for your assessment.
