Children's Holiday Program
Rocky Bay conducts a part time school holiday program for children with high physical needs dependant upon the availability of funding and accommodation. Separate programs are offered to children in primary school aged 8 - 12 years and those in high school 13 - 17 years.
The program includes a wide variety of activities, such as sport, art and crafts, cooking and skill building activities where participants can further develop a number of skills such as teamwork and communication. In addition, there are activities purely for enjoyment, such as outings to various venues.
The program is facilitated by trained support workers who have experience working with children with disabilities. The program is designed to provide challenging and stimulating opportunities for participants which, because of the restrictive nature of their disability, it may not be possible for them to otherwise access.
The program aims to:
- Enhance the quality of life for participants whilst developing a supportive and caring network of friends and peers;
- Provide opportunities for children to become more responsible and to acquire skills that increase problem solving abilities;
- Focus on the achievements and successes of its participants and therefore create a greater positive self-identity for participants; and
- Provide participants the chance to have a short break away from their family and to provide families and carers with some respite.
